Last Friday night I was down at my local. The regulars are all Japanese, mostly working retail jobs for minimum wage. The music is rather eclectic. But without fail, Marley would be worked into the play list.It is cool they like Marley. They have studied the lyrics and get the gist of his message. What did my head in that night, was the owner. He is Marley mad - yet he did not know Marley was half white half black. It was worse. He refused to believe me and went off the deep end when I explained some of his music is a product of experience of being discriminated by both blacks and whites.
The ignorance did not bother me. It was the refusal to believe.
